Diary 1886

Diary of 1886 trip to Europe, with daily expenses. Bowersock was accompanied on this trip to Europe by Professor W.H. Carruth. England, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, and Austria were in the itinerary. Bowersock took voice, piano, and guitar lessons, visited many landmarks, art galleries, etc. The European trip lasted from January to August, 1886.

Carruth received his A.B. in 1880 and his A.M. in 1889, both from KU. In 1893 he received his Ph.D. from Harvard. He joined the faculty of KU in 1879, teaching German and English. In 1902 he became the Vice-President of the Faculty and reached full Professor status. He retired in 1913 and died in 1924. From the guide to the Personal Papers of William H.
